Below is the full news release. Oracle Charter School to hold special Open House, tomorrow, Saturday, November 19th Buffalo, NY—John Ashwood, Head of School at Oracle Charter School, has announced that the school will be hosting a special Open House for students currently in 7th and 8th grades. The event, which has a science and technology theme, will be held this Saturday, November 19, 2011, between 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Oracle Charter School is located at 888 Delaware Avenue, near the corner of Delaware and Bryant Streets. Students attending this special Open House can take part in a variety of hands-on projects, but don’t have to be focused on science and technology to attend. The diverse projects will include melting, mashing, and examining rock samples, performing “egg-cellent” experiments, and extracting DNA. Students can also visit Oracle’s Mac Lab and explore their creative side by producing a music video, which they can take home on a free Oracle-provided flash drive! Students can attend Saturday’s event without a parent or guardian, but must bring a completed and signed permission slip, which can be obtained at the school. Participation in all projects is not necessary, and attendance for the full four hours is not required. Charter schools are required to enroll students through a blind lottery. Enrollment information and forms can be obtained by calling Oracle Charter School at (716) 362-3188 or by visiting their website at www.oraclecharterschool.org. Applications for the 2012-2013 school year can be submitted at any time prior to the lottery, held April 1, 2012. After that date, applications will be accepted for any remaining openings. Charter schools are tuition-free, independent public schools that operate under a contract or charter. With rigorous curriculum programs and unique educational approaches, such as longer school days and a longer school year, charter schools offer quality and choice in the public education system. Oracle Charter School offers small classes, a safe school setting, a caring and committed staff, and high graduation and college placement rates. The school is housed in a turn-of-the-century, E. B. Green-designed mansion. The school has a total enrollment of more than 350 students in grades 9-12. More than 50 faculty and staff are employed at the school. |
